Tanzania's
Buried Treasures: Olduvai Gorge
and Human Origins

At the Visitor's Center, with its commanding views of the
gorge, you will learn of the history of this unique place
and, in the Olduvai Museum and laboratory, see its evolutionary
treasures.
Beginning with the decades of work by famed paleoanthropologists,
Louis and Mary Leakey, Olduvai continues to yield spectacular
artifacts and human and animal fossils from their geological
crypts of sediments and volcanic ash.

|
Olduvai Gorge contains one of the world's most complete
and well-preserved fossil and archaeological records pertaining
to the behavioral evolution of our species.

This will be followed by a special guided tour of sites within
the gorge where you might meet and talk with the team members.

Today,
the gorge is the domain of a joint Tanzanian and American
team consisting of scientists from many different disciplines
and headed by Dr. Fidelis Masao and Dr. Rob Blumenschine.
